It’s time for a Road Trip!
School is out here; and my daughter is ready for some fun after her exams. We’ve had quite a week! Nothing soothes a week of stress like a road trip. We’ll be heading to one of my favorite places in this wonderful country–Northern Virginia. Because we lived there, it is a comfortable destination for us; and we will be visiting family and friends. From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the White House, this trip has tremendous possibilities for rest and fun.
Our week has been a hard one. My daughter’s exams were the least of it. There was a triple homicide near our home on Monday, and that was traumatic for us. Detectives and the media questioned us; but we were not much help to them. Fortunately, the person responsible turned himself in, but it was no less tragic for the families of the victims. As is often the case with such happenings, all of those involved knew one another.
As a result, my blog postings have slipped, and I hate it when that happens! I prefer daily visits with my readers and friends, and resolve to be much more diligent with my posting, even on vacation. For poets, stress is sometimes an impetus for interesting poetry. Maybe I’ll have some new work to share with you soon.
We lived in the Washington DC metro area, inside the beltway. I love the city, with its rich history and endless political games. I’m an unrepentant political junkie, and need my daily news fixes of information. I’ve missed being away from our Nation’s Capital. Maybe I’ll have time to run downtown for some sight-seeing. It’s a wonderful city to visit in the daytime, but it is a glorious sight at night. One of my favorite trips is to visit the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial by the light of the moon. Awe-inspiring is the best way to describe it!
I’d love to hear how you are spending your Memorial Day holiday. Will you be traveling, or staying close to home? Just know I’ll be fighting traffic; because if there is one thing the Washington area is known for, it is that! I’m not worried about it, however; because this trip will be one of renewal and relaxation for me, regardless. Take care as you travel, and enjoy your holiday. I WILL be keeping in touch.
